Eco-dyeing
More recently, I have included eco-dying , using locally foraged or home grown plants to create colour on a range of materials such as silk, wool, cotton and paper. The whole process of wrapping the plants in fabric or paper, boiling the bundles and then unwrapping the bundles is magical. This is such an organic process – depending on the season, the state of the plant life, the differing materials used – a treasure trove of colour emerges. What follows then is a slow process of reconstructing, stitching, creating something that can tell a story.
